Corporate Social Investment

The Bank of Namibia, in accordance with its Social Responsibility Program, resolved to establish a long-term funding relationship with two identified schools: Wennie Du Plessis Secondary School in Gobabis and Nuuyoma Secondary School in Oshikuku. The two computer laboratories were officially inaugurated by the Governor, Tom K. Alweendo and the Deputy Governor, Paul Hartmann of the Bank of Namibia, in conjunction with the Minister and Deputy Minister of Education, on 3 and 10 March 2006, respectively.

It is the Bank's believe that quality education plays a vital role in the process of economic growth and development. The main objective of the project is to contribute to the upliftment of Namibian communities by increasing computer literacy amongst secondary school learners.

The Bank availed an amount of N$ 500 000.00 over a period of five years, to each of the two schools. The respective laboratories are equipped with 25 computers each, which are used by learners from Grade 8 to 12.

The Bank pays regular visits to the respective schools in order to assess the condition of the laboratories’ equipment and school needs, as well as to determine areas for further support such as training of teachers.
