Sixth BoN Annual Symposium

The challenges for the development of Namibian bonds market:
Lessons from other smaller economies.

The Bank of Namibia symposium is an annual event of the Bank of Namibia. The Bank of Namibia symposium has developed into a structured investigation of specific themes on economic issues of a theoretical, applied or policy nature. It attracts participants from both public and private sector, particularly financial market agents, the academics, researchers and policy makers. The objective is to exchange ideas on the thematic issues with a purpose of influencing policy developments.

The first symposium took place in November 1999, focused on central banking issues and economic development. Its proceedings were documented in the South African Journal of Economics, Volume 68:1, 2000. The second symposium was held in October 2000, it dealt with the challenges of monetary policy within the context of the Common Monetary Area (CMA) arrangement. The third symposium took place in August 2001 under the theme “Optimal Financial Structure for Namibia”. The fourth symposium was held in August 2002 under the theme " Raising investment and growth in Namibia". The fifth symposium took place in August 2003, under the theme " Poverty, Income Inequality, and Economic Development in Namibia" It has become a general practice that papers presented as well as all the proceedings of the symposium are documented in a special BoN publication and also on this website.
