Monetary Policy

The ultimate objective of monetary policy in Namibia is to maintain price stability. In achieving this broad objective, the Bank of Namibia has an intermediate target to promote an economic and financial environment that will ensure sustenance of the one-to-one parity between the Namibia Dollar and the South Africa Rand.

In this regard, the bank maintains the stock of international reserves at levels adequate to cover Namibia’s international transactions as well as above a minimum threshold defined as the amount of currency in circulation plus a 30 day moving average of commercial banks net foreign payments.
