Mission

The mission is to prudently and efficiently manage foreign exchange reserves, as well as issue and manage Government domestic debt securities.


Functions

To carry out its mission, the Financial Markets Department consists of three Divisions, namely: Domestic Markets, International Markets and Payment System Division. The Compliance Office and Back Office provide support services to the Department. Activities carried out in the Department are as follows:


  • To manage the investment of the official foreign exchange reserves within the parameters set by Bank of Namibia Act and Investment Policy.
  • To carry out agency functions of the Bank as issuer and manager of domestic Government debt securities and provide advice on debt management
  • To help in developing local money and capital markets and initiate market development ideas
  • To carry out monetary policy related directives.
